SUPPORT CHILD NEUROSCIENCE CENTER

The Philippine Children’s Medical Center

The Philippine Children’s Medical Center is one of the government-owned and controlled corporate National Centers for Specialized Health Care under the Department of Health.

It is a 200-bed capacity tertiary hospital with a mandate to provide pediatric care, offer training programs for medical and allied health care providers, and be a center in clinical research.

Everyday, the doctors of the Child Neuroscience Center (CNC) encounter neurological problems of infants, children and adolescents up to 18 years old. They come from all over the country and from the poorest of the poor. The CNC does not only take care of the patients but also empower their families with regard to the illness and disabilities of these children. Requests for assistance are carefully screened and documented by a special committee.

Anti-ANDAR project
An autoimmune disease
Encephalitis is an autoimmune disease and causes inflammation in the brain. After (or as a result of corona), the number of children who get it increases sharply. Used to be in this hospital 2 to 3 times a year. Now in 2023 already 15 cases. Consequences of this life-threatening illness: serious psychiatric consequences, memory loss, etc.
Prompt diagnosis and treatment is necessary. A medicine is available.
The request is concrete to make the diagnosis very quickly, so that treatment is on time.
Although the Philippine government pays for the treatment, it is almost always too late for poor children for whom the Social Services Department has to arrange payment.
