Bukang Liwayway Foundation
Founded in 1996, Bukang Liwayway (BL) Foundation has continuously expanded its community development projects (scholarship, training & discipleship, child development centre & annual camps) in several areas and encourages economic, emotional, social, cognitive, physical and spiritual development among the underprivileged.
Bukang Liwayway has engaged in healthcare, livelihood training & projects, and education initiatives in the communities for the past 20 years.
Since August 2023, Conamor has been sponsoring about 10 children in Barangay Muzon, Rosario, Cavite, a suburb of Manila, Philippines, where “Dawn for the Poor” has a new project.
It is located by the sea where the poor population tries to earn their daily bread by fishing, selling dried fish and transporting people with a three-wheel (motor) bicycle.
A leader of the above-mentioned organization went to live there and he saw the problems of this population: children who are taken out of school at an early age in order to help families make ends meet.
Other families simply do not have the money to send their children to school. Many children play on the street instead of going to school. Their houses consist of waste materials and garbage that is just lying around in the area. Poverty radiates towards you.
These 10 children, aged 10-15 years, from groups 2 to 10, are chosen from very poor families. They receive weekly help by providing transportation to school, school supplies, books and additionally the families receive guidance and encouragement to let their child learn at school. This way, the progress of the children is closely monitored. It is the hope that these children will continue and finalize their education.
Dawn for the Poor has more than 25 years of experience with this aid method in the slums of Manila and other cities in the Philippines. There are already many success stories of graduated people, who now can provide in return their own families.
